Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Roosevelt High School, the Home of the Mighty Rough Riders.

We are proud of our tradition of excellence since 1923, and I am proud to continue this year as the Principal of Roosevelt.

I welcome all families to come visit and see for yourself why Roosevelt is the school of choice for Boyle Heights.
We are a family committed to student achievement in all areas: academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. We are a community school that believes in serving the whole student and family.
Our achievement results have been improving, including recognition this year for being #6 high school for most improvement on the English section of the Smarter Balanced Assessment. In addition, our graduation rate has grown to 87% for the class of 2017.
We have a host of partners who collaborate to bring resources for students to support college access, academic achievement and wellness.
Roosevelt High School is a school of tradition and a school for the future. As a member of the LAUSD Instructional Technology Initiative, every student receives an iPad as a learning tool.
We have pioneered Restorative Practices that focus on the three values: respect, relationships and responsibility. We believe in building community to support all students and to acknowledge and recognize growth.
Our Vision: Roosevelt High School will be a student-centered institution of excellence. RHS graduates will be intellectually ready for college, career, and personally prepared for socially responsible civic engagement. Our teachers and staff will use innovative and creative instruction. Our parents and community will view RHS as a center for high-quality education, a resource for support, and a model for lifelong learners.
Our Mission: Roosevelt High School prepares students for college and career readiness through high expectations and support. We foster student voice and leadership to develop life-long learners and self-advocates. Our teachers and staff take an assets-based approach in working with parents and community partners to build authentic, rigorous educational experiences for students.
If you are considering which high school is right for your child, I encourage you to contact our Community Outreach Director, Jorge Lopez, to schedule a campus tour. He can be reached at
I look forward to a bright future for Roosevelt High School, the school where tradition and pride meet innovation and excellence.
