9th Grade Rider Academy Overview

CREATING A STRONG ACADEMIC

TRANSITION INTO HIGH SCHOOL

FOR ALL 9TH GRADE STUDENTS

1. 9th grade is a very important year for students. Research shows that students who have a successful ninth grade year are four times more likely to graduate from high school than those who struggle in ninth grade.

2. The Rider Academy at Roosevelt High School was established to create a strong academic foundation for all incoming students. This work will take true partnership between school and home, ensuring that teachers and parents are in consistent communication about student progress.

Our Commitments to Families

  • Creating three small 9th grade houses, where a group of teachers ensure all students are known, cared for and successful.
  • Graduating students eligible for public university by pushing students to earn grades of C or better in all academic classes.
  • Creating opportunities for students to show their learning through studentled conferences and exhibitions.
  • Inviting all 9th grade academy students to one college visit during their 9th grade year.
  • Using a strategic partnership with the City Year organization to support the 100 students most at risk of struggling in school.
  • Building restorative practices into all classrooms, so that all classrooms are inviting, positive spaces for all students.
