Notable Athletic Alumni 1970’s

Lynn Cain graduated in 1973. Not a great star in high school, he developed into the California Junior College Player of the Year at East LA JC in 1974. During that 1974 season he rushed for 1666 yards and scored 19 touchdowns. He played fullback at USC and gained 977 yards, while serving as Captain for the 1978 Trojans. He enjoyed a fine professional career with the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams from 1979 thru 1985.

 

Greg Hudson graduated in 1970. He was the All LA City Football Player of the Year in 1969. That season he caught 48 passes for 1159 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ran track and played baseball while at Roosevelt. Nicknamed "Hot Dog", he wnt on to Arizona St. where in 1973 he caught 54 passes for 788 yards and 7 touchdowns.

 

Ray Rodriguez graduated in 1970 and was an All LA City football linebacker in 1969. He also was a fine high jumper. He lettered in football at USC in 1972 and 1973.

 

Chris Smith graduated in 1974 and was an All LA City Basketball player that year. He averaged 32.8 points per game. He went on to Portland State where he averaged 4.8 points per game in 1978.

 

Ken Tyier graduated in 1971 and was All Eastern League second team in basketball that year. He played college basketball at Gonzaga, where he averaged 17.3 points per game in 1975.

 

David Villasenor graduated in 1975 and was the LA City Gymnastics champion in parallel bars that year. While at Oregon, he placed fourth in the PAC 10 parallel bars in 1979.
